How to Remove MSN Messenger in Windows XP

    Uninstall MSN Messenger

    • 1). Click "Start" and select "Control Panel."

    • 2). Double-click the "Add or Remove Programs" icon. This should be close to the top of the window.

    • 3). Scroll down to MSN Messenger. Click on the program then click the "Remove" button. The uninstall wizard will appear. Click "Finish" to complete uninstallation.

    Display MSN Messenger if it is hidden

    • 1). Click Start and select "My Computer." Type "C:\Windows\inf" into the address field at the top of the window and press the "Enter" key.

    • 2). Locate the "Sysoc" file. Double-click on the file to open it. It will open in notepad.

    • 3). Look for the following line: "msmsgs=msgrocm.dll,OcEntry,msmsgs.inf,hide,7." Remove "hide." Do not remove anything else. Save the file.

    • 4). Repeat the steps in section 1 to delete MSN Messenger using "Add or Remove Programs." MSN Messenger should be visible in the list of programs now.
