How to Change the Oil Filter in a 2006 Hyundai Sonata

    • 1). Set the drain pan under the oil reservoir located under the Hyundai Sonata behind the front tires. Remove the drain plug that is set in to the pan and allow the oil to drain in to the drain pan.

    • 2). Locate the oil filter. The filter is a cylinder four to six inches in diameter and six to nine inches high. It is located on the driver's side of the engine compartment.

    • 3). Remove the oil filter with the oil filter wrench by turning it counterclockwise.

    • 4). Install the new oil filter where the old one was located. Re-plug the oil pan with the bolt.

    • 5). Dispose of the old oil into plastic jugs and take it to an oil recycler. Most local auto parts stores take used oil.
