- 1). Disconnect the power cord from the T23 and flip the laptop over so that the bottom of the unit is facing up and the battery compartment is on the right side, closest to you. Slide the battery-retaining mechanism located to the upper-right of the battery and use your finger to pry up and remove the battery.
Remove two screws located toward the middle of the laptop using the screwdriver. The first screw is close to the battery-retaining mechanism you just slid to release the battery. The second screw is to the cover that houses the Mini PCI card, which is a few inches away from the first screw toward the center of the unit. Open the Mini PCI cover and remove the screw that is almost in the center of the Mini PC area. Flip the laptop over and open the laptop, completely opening the screen so that it is in line with the keyboard. Turn the laptop upside-down and find the silver corner inside the battery bay. Push this silver corner until the keyboard begins to release on the other side of the laptop. Turn the laptop over and lift the keyboard up and away from the laptop. - 2). Turn the laptop face-up so that the motherboard is accessible. Locate the point where the video cable connects to the motherboard. This will be along the center of the laptop near the location of the indicator lights that display power and hard drive activity. Remove this screw that attaches the video cable to the motherboard and gently pull the cable connection away from the motherboard. Once removed, reattach the connector to the motherboard and replace the screw.
- 3). Reinstall the keyboard. This should be done by inserting the back edge of the keyboard first, which is where the function keys are located. Lower the front edge into place and work your finger around the edge and gently snap the keyboard back into position. Flip over the laptop and replace the three screws that you removed earlier. Replace the battery, and plug in the power cord.
- 4). In the unlikely event that this is not the problem, one additional cause may be that the laptop is in external monitor mode. Cycling through the three monitor settings may fix this issue. To check, hold down the "Function" key and tap "F7" once. If nothing changes, wait five seconds and try the keystroke again. Again, if nothing changes, try a third time after waiting five seconds. If this does not fix the issue, re-seating the video cable should fix the issue.
