- 1). Remove the HP 88 cartridge from the printer and place it upright onto a clear workspace.
- 2). Carefully cut the joint between the body of the cartridge and cap on the bottom. Pull off the bottom cap once the joint has been cut.
- 3). Flip over the cartridge and screw the ball remover into the black ball which is plugging the refill hole. Gently pull out the black ball and leave it attached to the ball remover.
- 4). Remove the plunger and needle from your refill syringe and insert the end of the syringe into the now open refill hole. Blow into the plunger from the other end to fill the plastic bag within the HP 88 cartridge with air.
- 5). Remove the syringe from the hole and affix the blunt needle attachment and plunger. Fill the plunger with 20 milliliters of black replacement ink. If you need to refill the HP 88 cartridge with color ink, fill the syringe with 10 milliliters of the appropriate color.
- 6). Carefully insert the syringe's needle into the refill hole and avoid hitting the sides of the bag within.
- 7). Slowly push the end of the plunger to release the refill ink into the HP 88.
- 8). Remove the syringe from the cartridge and replace the ball plug into the refill hole to seal it.
- 9). Push the plunger all of the way down into the syringe, tilt the HP 88 cartridge and insert the end of the syringe into the outlet tube on the bottom of the cartridge.

Pump the HP 88 pump in the center to expel air into the plunger. Slowly pull back on the plunger to withdraw any additional air, then remove the syringe from the outlet hole. - 11
Replace the cap on the bottom of the cartridge and secure it with a piece of adhesive tape. Return the cartridge to the printer.
