Removing and Replacing a Rear View Mirror in a 1995 Contour

    • 1). Push the rear view mirror lens upward, toward the ceiling of the Ford Contour to allow easier access to the base of the mirror.

    • 2). Remove the screw from the base of the rear view mirror with a number 8-Torx driver. The head of the screw has a small, eight-pointed star embossed on it. A Torx driver looks like a screwdriver except the head fits the eight-point star shape instead of a traditional slotted screw.

    • 3). Slide the base of the rear view mirror upward to release it from the grooved metal tab glued to the Ford's windshield.

    • 4). Place the new mirror against the Ford's windshield above the grooved metal button.

    • 5). Slide the mirror downward onto the grooved metal button until the mirror properly seats onto the button. If placed correctly, the mirror rests on the button without the screw.

    • 6). Tighten the mirror onto the grooved metal button with the screw.
