How to Troubleshoot a Dead HP Ze

    • 1). Turn the HP Pavilion ze laptop upside down with the front side of the laptop closest to you. Push the battery-release latch, located in the lower left corner of the laptop, up with one hand, then pull the battery, located along the lower left edge of the laptop, out of the laptop with the other hand.

    • 2). Turn the HP Pavilion ze laptop right side up, and position it so the back of the laptop is closest to you, then plug the power cord into the AC adapter jack on the far left edge of the back of the laptop.

    • 3). Rotate the laptop 180 degrees, and open the display. Press the power button above the "Escape" key behind the far left side of the back row of keyboard keys. If the laptop powers up, you need to replace the battery. If the laptop does not power up, proceed to Step 4.

    • 4). Slide the battery back into the battery bay until it clicks and locks into place. Plug the power cord into the AC adapter on the laptop, then let the laptop sit and attempt to charge for four hours. Do not unplug or attempt to start the laptop during this time. Leaving the laptop alone for three hours will give it a chance to charge slowly and for the battery to charge slowly and fully.

    • 5). Unplug the power cord from the AC adapter, then open the display. Press the power button. If the laptop starts, the power cord needs to be replaced. If the laptop does not start, insert another battery and repeat Step 4 to see if the laptop will power up using a different battery. If after trying a second battery, the laptop is still not powering up, the motherboard needs to be replaced. Consult the user's guide that came with your model of the HP Pavilion ze laptop to replace the motherboard, or take the laptop to a computer repair shop to have them install the new motherboard.
