How Should a Laptop Be Stored?

    • 1). Leave your computer on until the battery runs down to a 40 percent charge. Turn the computer off completely. Unplug it from any accessories, including the mouse, speakers or printers. Unplug the laptop from the charger.

    • 2). Close the laptop and flip it over. Use the screwdriver to unscrew the battery cover. Gently pull the battery out and set it aside. Replace the battery cover and screw it back on.

    • 3). Put the battery in the refrigerator and set the temperature at 32 degrees Fahrenheit. The battery will keep the charge in the refrigerator. When you're ready to use the laptop again, let the battery warm up to room temperature before you put it back in the laptop.

    • 4). Put your laptop in the laptop sleeve. Wrap it loosely in a sheet. Put the wrapped laptop in a linen closet or another out of the way place where children and pets cannot reach it. Store it in a temperature-controlled environment, out of direct sunlight. A desk drawer is appropriate if you can lock it. Take everything else out of the drawer so no objects bump the laptop.
