How to Install an Alternator Belt in a 1994 Ford Aerostar

    • 1). Park 1994 Ford Aerostar and apply the emergency brake.

    • 2). Open the hood and inspect the plastic cover that surrounds the radiator for the diagram that gives the proper routing of the serpentine belt.

    • 3). Locate the automatic tensioner below the alternator. Use the bolt head in the center section of the pulley that is attached to the automatic tensioner to loosen the tension from the belt.

    • 4). Turn the pulley counterclockwise with the 3/8-inch drive breaker bar and a socket to remove the tension from the belt. Slide your other hand down and pull the belt off the automatic tensioner pulley. Slowly release the automatic tensioner and remove the breaker bar.

    • 5). Pull the belt out of each accessory pulley. Then, pull the belt around each fan blade. Turn the fan with your hand as you are removing the belt around each fan blade. Pull the belt out of the engine area.

    • 6). Slide the new belt around each fan blade. Turn the fan with your hand until the belt is completely around each fan blade. Then, slide the new belt into each accessory pulley by using the serpentine belt routing diagram for instructions.

    • 7). Turn the automatic tensioner pulley counterclockwise until there is enough room to slide the new belt around the automatic tensioner pulley. Slowly release the pulley and the automatic tensioner will pull the slack out of the belt.

    • 8). Crank the 1994 Ford Aerostar and let the motor run for 30 seconds. Turn the engine off and inspect the belt to make sure that the new belt is still on each pulley. Shut the hood.
