How to Enable 64 Bit

    • 1). Restart your computer and hold down both the "4" and "6" keys during the reboot. The 64-bit kernel will now be enabled. If you prefer a more automatic method, continue to Step 2.

    • 2). Navigate to the following folder on your OSX operating system:

      /Library/Preferences/SystemConfiguration/com.apple.Boot.plist

    • 3). Edit the following file:

      <key>Kernel Flags</key>

      <string></string>

Change it so it looks like this:

      <key>Kernel Flags</key>

      <string>arch=x86_64</string>

Close the file and reboot your computer so the 64-bit kernel option will be enabled. If you don't want to edit your files manually, continue with Step 4.

    • 4). Download the K64Enabler program from the program website. Click on the "K64Enabler 1.1" file under the Download section to save the file, then double-click the file to run the Mac installer.

    • 5). Select the K64Enabler from the Apple program list and click on the button labeled "Enable the 64-bit Kernal."
