How Do I Replace a 1996 Buick Fuel Pump?

    • 1). Jack up the rear of the vehicle and secure it with jack stands. Remove the floor jack after securing the car with the stands.

    • 2). Place the jack under the fuel tank and jack it up until it is only a few inches from the fuel tank.

    • 3). Loosen the bolts that secure the tank straps to the vehicle. There are two straps and one bolt per strap. The bolts are near the rear of the vehicle.

    • 4). Pull the straps away from the fuel tank.

    • 5). Loosen the hose clamp that holds the tank to the filler tube on the side of the vehicle. Pull the hose off the tank.

    • 6). Lower the jack slowly to bring the fuel tank down from the vehicle until the jack is fully retracted.

    • 7). Remove the main fuel line and the return fuel line from the fuel pump. Loosen the clamps with a screwdriver and pull the hoses off with your hand.

    • 8). Disconnect the wiring harness from the top of the fuel pump by pressing the locking button and pulling it out.

    • 13

Put the new fuel pump motor where the old pump was by sliding it into the assembly.

Connect the new sock to the base of the fuel pump by pressing it on with your hand.

    • 14

Place the assembly back into the fuel tank and tighten the locking ring using your hands.
