Is your 'significant other' too clingy in bed? Perhaps their love permeates them to their very soul, driving them to embrace you even as they sleep.
Perhaps they have self esteem issues, and subconsciously want to snuggle like a baby chick under its mother's wing.
Romantic as the concept may seem, it can lead to an unpleasant night of sweating for you, or result in your being trapped in an uncomfortable position while locked in your partner's embrace.
Even if your partner tries to be cooperative and give you some space, their subconscious may have them snuggling against you again as soon as they fall asleep.
What to do? Simply sleeping in separate beds (or worse, in separate rooms) isn't a particularly romantic option, but without a good night's sleep, it's unlikely you'll feel romantic the following day.
While I hope the urge to snuggle reflects your partner's love and not simply a desire to cling, there ought to be a relatively simple solution to address your problem -- one that doesn't involve rocket science.
Fortunately, such a solution exists.
It's a variation on shortsheeting a bed, and it's done to make your sleep more restful, and not as a practical joke on your bunk mate.
When putting together the bed, put on a bottom sheet (flat or fitted), then use two additional flat sheets above it.
Fold each of these two sheets lengthwise in such a way that they divide the bed into two halves, and the long edge of each folded sheet runs along opposite edges of the bed.
Then add blankets, comforters, or a bedspread as you normally would.
When you get in bed, you should each fold back the open edge of the sheet and lie inside one of the folded sheets.
You'll each be isolated from the other while sleeping, making it less likely there will be an unintentional (and uncomfortable) embrace.
It should solve the problem, although it may take some of the spontaneity out of recreational sports in bed.
If your sweating at night is not the result of your partner's embrace, take a look at the web site in the signature box below -- you may find some additional remedies for the hot flashes and / or night sweats you've been struggling with.
In many instances a change in diet (less caffeine, alcohol, sugar, etc) and more exercise may help, but there are a number of other ways to wake up feeling refreshed which are discussed on the we page.
I hope you find some relief!
