How do I Remove a 1999 F150 Pitman Arm?

    • 1). Lift the front of the Ford with the jack and put jack stands below the frame. Lower the jack so the Ford's frame sits on the stands and supports the weight of the vehicle.

    • 2). Removing the cotter pin connecting the pitman arm to the steering linkage using the needle-nose pliers. Unbolt the pitman arm bolt from the steering linkage using the 3/8-inch ratchet and socket.

    • 3). Remove the bolt securing the pitman arm to the steering box using an open-end wrench. Put the pitman arm puller onto the pitman arm so that the center threaded stud on the puller is touching the splined shaft in the center of the steering box and the arms are wrapped around the sides of the puller.

    • 4). Tighten down the center bolt on the puller until the pitman arm pulls off the steering box. Remove the pitman arm from underneath the vehicle.
