- 1). Click the "Start" button and select "Computer" or "My Computer." Right-click in the new window and select "Properties" to view your system's hardware information. Compare this with the newly installed program's system requirements to ensure that your system meets these requirements. Download an earlier version of the program if the system requirements are less stringent.
- 2). Click on the "Start" button. Click "All Programs" and select "Accessories." Click "System Tools" and "Disk Defragmenter." Click "Defragment" and allow the process to complete. Defragmenting your hard drive allows the drive to store sectors of information closer to each other for faster processing.
- 3). Click on the "Start" button. Click "All Programs" and select "Accessories." Click "System Tools" and "Disk Cleanup" to run the Windows disk cleaning utility. Select "My Files" or "Files from all users on this computer" in the "Disk Cleanup Options" window. Place a check mark next to which folders and types of files you wish to remove from the hard drive. Click "OK" and "Delete Files." Deleting unnecessary files from the hard drive allows your computer to run more efficiently.
