How to Set Up a Printer on a Laptop

    • 1). Verify a physical connection to your laptop if you are using a local printer. Verify that you are connected to the Internet if you are using a wireless printer. Click "Start, then choose "Control Panel," then "View Devices," then "Printers" on your laptop. Click "Add a printer" from the "Devices and Printers" folder.

    • 2). Indicate whether the printer will connect physically or wirelessly to your laptop.

    • 3). Select your printer from the list of printers connected or within range of your laptop. Install the print driver if prompted on the next screen. Insert the printer's installation CD if you are prompted. Click "Next" once the laptop is ready to proceed.

    • 4). Type in the name by which you want to remember this printer, then click "Next." Select whether to share the printer, then select whether your laptop will automatically print on this printer by setting it as default or not. Click "Finish."
