How to Wire a Radio in a Boat

    • 1). Attach the brown, black or green grounding wire to the ground bus bar or the negative post of the battery. Stick the stripped end of the wire into the bus bar and tighten the screw down onto the wire to hold it in place. Secure the wire along the route with wire clamps or behind boat trip to keep it dry, safe and out of site.

    • 2). Plug the speaker wires into the proper jack locations at the back of the radio. Usually one for the left and one for the right speaker, but four speakers or more are not uncommon. Speaker wires are attached using male and female water proof connectors called jacks.

    • 3). Plug the antenna wire connector into the jack that feeds the antenna. It is usually larger wire and could be coaxial cable with male and female connections.

    • 4). Attach the white or red hot positive wire to the positive buss bar or the positive post of the battery. Stick the stripped end of the wire into the bus bar and tighten the screw down onto the wire to hold it in place. Secure the wire along the route with wire clamps or behind boat trip to keep it dry, safe and out of site.
