If it is your true desire to get back with your ex, sometimes a bit of soul searching is required.
You can't afford to fool yourself here; be brutally honest.
You must decide if getting back together with your ex will really make you happy, and you won't end up back down that same road that led to the break up in the first instance.
It is so easy to reminisce only on the good times after a break up; but it is vital that you be as objective as you can and remember both the good and the bad times.

Pestering and harassing your ex is a definite mistake.
Constantly attempting to get in contact with him or her; be it by phone, fax or email is going to do more harm than good.
Stalking is out of the question, needless to say.
It will only be interpreted as a sign of desperation, and will drive your ex further away from you instead of bring them closer.

You need to cement it in your mind that at the present moment, the relationship is over.
You can't go back and undo everything that contributed to it; although you may be wishing that you could sometimes.
Instead, focus on the current situation, and how you intend to deal with it.
Probably the only thing worse than desperately contacting your ex is to whine and beg to be taken back; making all manner of promises as to how you'll change, etc.
This will only make you seem like a raving lunatic.
Not a good idea.

Simply lay off your ex's case and concentrate on improving yourself.
This will be one of the most beneficial things that you've ever done for both of you.
You will be giving them room to miss you and think about you; and you'll also be making yourself more attractive to your ex from the inside out.
You'll be a happier, more mature person which will draw your ex back to you sooner than you think.
