- 1). Run the regedit program. You can do this with Windows Vista by clicking on the "Windows Start" button and typing "regedit" in the start search window. In older version of Windows, click on "Start," then "Run," then type "regedit." This will open up a new window with the Windows registry editor.
- 2). Click on the "Edit" menu, and then on "Find." This will open a new window with the "Find" box.
- 3). Type "runonce" in the "Find" box and press "Enter." This will start the search for the runonce key. The registry is rather large, so this process may take a very long time. Do not worry when the window says "Searching" for a few minutes.
- 4). View the value that was found by the search. If you have other software installed, you may see some different items found by the search. You are looking for the value on the right side of the screen that says "IE8RunOnceCompleted." If your search stopped anywhere but that location, press the F3 key to continue searching until you have found that value.
- 5). Double-click on the name "IE8RunOnceCompleted." This will open a new window to Edit the DWORD (32-bit) value.
- 6). Type a "1" in the box and click the "OK" button. The next time you start Internet Explorer, the RunOnce screen will not appear.
