How to Find Obsolete Drivers in Vista

    • 1). Open the Start Menu from your Windows Vista desktop.

    • 2). Select the "Manage" option. Select "Device Manager" from the resulting window.

    • 3). Open the "View" menu and select the "Show Hidden Devices" tab.

    • 4). Open all of the branches in your device tree. Make note of faded device icons. These represent drivers for your non-present--or, unattached--devices. Some of these devices may be obsolete, but still using computer resources.

    • 5). Delete any drivers for devices you do not use, as they are obsolete. Right-click on the faded icon and select "Uninstall." Repeat this process for all obsolete drivers on your computer.
