- 1). Turn off your Dell laptop and remove the power cable if it's connected. Close the screen and turn the laptop upside down.
- 2). Unplug the battery from its port on the underside of the computer.
- 3). Locate the memory compartment on the bottom of your Dell. On many laptops this is the second-largest compartment on the bottom of the computer, next to the hard drive. But consult the user guide to your particular Dell if you have problems locating it.
- 4). Remove the screws on the compartment cover and lift the cover up. The rectangular memory module will be visible inside.
- 5). Pull the metal tabs on the ends of the module outward at the same time and the module will pop up. Remove it.
- 6). Fit a new module in the compartment and press gently down until the tabs lock in place. Replace the cover, screws and battery.
