- 1). Right-click an open area on Vista's desktop, hover your mouse on top of "New" and select "Shortcut." A window pops up.
- 2). Enter "rundll32.exe powrprof.dll,SetSuspendState 0,1,0" into the blank field in the "Create Shortcut" dialog box. This command line executes sleep mode.
- 3). Click "Next." A prompt appears asking you to name the shortcut.
- 4). Enter "Sleep" into the field and click "Finish." A "Sleep" shortcut appears on your desktop.
- 5). Right-click "Sleep" and click "Properties."
- 6). Click the "Shortcut key" field and press a key. If you enter a character, the shortcut key becomes "Ctrl + Alt +" the character you entered. If you used one of the function keys, such as "F5," the shortcut key remains that function key.
- 7). Click "OK."
