How to Hook Up a Dell Precision 3370 to a Monitor

    • 1). Position the computer so that you can access the ports on the back. You may need to pull it out from under a desk or turn it sideways if it is sitting on a table.

    • 2). Inspect the back of the computer to identify the monitor connection type. There are two major types of monitor connectors: Digital Visual Interface (DVI) and Visual Graphics Array (VGA). Your Dell Precision could have both of these connectors or just one. VGA connectors are typically blue in color and use a series of pins to transmit video. DVI plugs are white and, in addition to pins, have room for a small, flat connector to the right of the pins. Identify which type of port your system uses and then employ the same steps to determine what type of cable your monitor uses. DVI cables have white heads and VGA cables have blue heads.

    • 3). Align the DVI or VGA cable on the monitor to the appropriate port on the monitor and push inward. Do not force the cable, or you could break the pins on the connector. There is only one correct alignment. Change the cable orientation and start over if it does not seem to fit.

    • 4). Twist the thumb screws on each side of the cable head to secure the monitor cable. Press the power button on the front of the monitor to turn it on. Your Dell Precision automatically detects the monitor.
