- 1). Open the Internet browser and make your way to the computer maker's page. Here all of the software and hardware updates are made available for free.
- 2). Choose the "Support" option, then click "Download and Drivers" (or just "Downloads," depending on the website you are using). Because there are many different computer manufacturers with different website designs, the exact phrasing will vary.
- 3). Select the kind of computer your system is (laptop or desktop), then click the design model and finally the actual model number.
- 4). Click "Windows 98" as the operating system and all the available driver updates are listed. Click the driver download link next to the "USB" listing and the drivers download directly to your computer.
- 5). Double-click the downloaded driver to load the installation wizard. Follow the prompts of the installation wizard to completely install the driver onto the computer, then restart the system for the drivers to take effect.
