- Preschool teachers earned an average yearly salary of $29,200 in 2010, with median pay of $25,700, according to the BLS. Those who made up the middle half of the pay scale earned between $20,000 and $34,400 a year.
- Preschool teachers who worked for elementary schools earned an average of $42,150 a year in 2010, according to the bureau. However, those working in child care service centers made an average yearly salary of $25,530. Those employed by organizations in individual and family services brought home an average of $29,160, while those working for religious organizations averaged $30,680.
- The highest-paid preschool teachers worked in the Northeast, including New York, New Jersey and Massachusetts, according to the BLS. They earned an average yearly salary of more than $33,000. Those employed in Washington, D.C., made slightly less, at $32,890, as did those in Minnesota, who brought home $32,310 a year. California had the largest number of pre-K teachers, who averaged $31,230.
- The job growth rate in early childhood education is expected to exceed the rate for many other professions in the U.S. as of 2011, according to the BLS. The bureau indicates the number of jobs in this field could grow by about 19 percent between 2008 and 2018.
