- Launch Internet Explorer from your desktop and navigate to the Genuine Microsoft Software Diagnostic website (see "Resources"). Click "Start Diagnostics" on the website and click "Run" when prompted. The WGA Diagnostic Tool analyzes your computer and presents a list of possible reasons why Windows Genuine and Windows XP are not working.
- The most common reason for Windows Genuine not working is an invalid product key. The WGA Diagnostic Tool presents you with the product key that was used to register the product. This key may be different than the original product key.
- Change the product key. Use the Windows Product Key Update Tool (see "Resources") to change the key. Follow the on-screen instructions to change the product key and validate your Windows Genuine product.
- Reboot your computer after the problem has been fixed. This allows your system to register the correct product key. The product key fixes the validation problem and allows Windows XP to boot with Windows Genuine.
