- 1). Create a restore point to restore your computer if the registry fails. Click on the "Start" button and right-click the "Computer" icon. Click on the "Properties" icon.
- 2). Click on the "System Protection" icon and enter your administrator password into the field, if prompted. Click on the "System Protection" tab and the "Create" option.
- 3). Type the name for your restore point and click the "Create" button.
- 4). Click the "Start" button and the "Programs" option. Click on the "Accessories" tab and the "Notepad" option from the menu.
- 5). Paste this into the Notepad file:

subinacl /subdirectories %SystemDrive% /grant=system=f - 6). Click the "File" menu and the "Save As" button. Save the file as "reset.cmd" with the following path: C:\Program Files\Windows Resource Kits\Tools.
- 7). Double-click on the newly created application to reset your registry.
