- 1). Download a ripping program that can extract the disc image files, also known as ISOs, from the single layer discs. Ripping programs that can extract ISO files include DVDShrink and DVD Decrypter (see Resources). Once you download one of these programs, go to the "Downloads" folder, double-click the icon for the program and follow the installation screens.
- 2). Put the first DVD that you want to convert to a dual layer DVD into the DVD drive of the computer and launch the ripping program you installed. Select the ISO-ripping mode in the program, which is done in DVDShrink by clicking the "Full Backup" button in the toolbar and in DVD Decrypter by clicking the "Mode" menu and choosing "ISO" and "Write." Then, choose the folder on your hard drive where you want to save the ripped ISO file by clicking the "Browse" button and click the "Rip" or "Decrypt" button to rip the ISO and save it to the folder. Repeat the ripping process until you have all of the DVDs you want to convert on your computer's hard drive.
- 3). Download a DVD-burning program that can write ISO files to dual layer DVDs. These include Nero, DVD Copy Express and AoA DVD Copy, each of which can be downloaded on its manufacturer's website (see Resources). Go to the "Downloads" folder and double-click the icon, then follow the screens to install the program you download.
- 4). Put a blank DVD-R in the computer's DVD drive and launch the burning program on your computer. On the main screen of the program, select "DVD" as the disc type, if prompted. Then, click the "Import" or "Add" button in the burning program, go to the folder that contains the ripped ISO files and double-click a file to add it to the first dual layer DVD project. If you want to add more than one ISO to the disc, click "Import" or "Add" again and choose the second ISO file.
- 5). Press the "Burn" or "Write" button. If the two ISO files you uploaded are too large for the disc, a message may appear giving you the option to fit the files to the disc. Click "Yes" to compress the files so that they will fit on the disc.
