- 1). Unplug the television, and let it cool for at least one hour if it has been recently used. Disconnect any external devices from the rear of the television. Remove the rear cover using a screw driver, and set the cover aside. Depending on the type of big screen television, the entire rear cover may come off, or just be a panel.
- 2). Remove the screws surrounding the frame of the front bezel cover, and remove the bezel cover from the television. Unscrew and pull forward the control panel cover. Remove the touch pad controls by removing any securing screws and pulling the controls free from the frame.
- 3). Remove the reflective mirror from the inside frame of the television. It is usually secured by four brackets which will need to be unscrewed to free the mirror. Set the mirror aside carefully in case it will be sold or reused. Remove the speakers from the frame, and disconnect any connected cables.
- 4). Remove the brackets in the rear of the television that secure the optical engine. There are usually two or three brackets that will need to be unscrewed. Unscrew the video board, and disconnect any cables. Carefully pull it forward to avoid damaging components. This will also usually remove the power supply.
- 5). Unscrew the securing screws for the optical engine module. Some screws will come out completely, and others will only loosen. Carefully pull the module forward, and disconnect any wires that are not already loose. Some cables will come forward with the module, since they were already disconnected from other components. The optical engine module will contain the projection lamp and color wheel.
