How to Build a High Power UHF Antenna

    • 1). Lay the 1-by-3-by-24 piece of wood down flat, and mark and drill 8 holes in it. You will drill two columns with four holes each. The first hole is three inches from the top, and each of the next three holes are six inches below the previous one. This leaves three inches of wood at the bottom of the piece. There should be one inch between every two holeshorizontally, and each hole should be inset one inch from the side edge.

    • 2). Cut eight strips of wire to 14 inches.

    • 3). Bend each of the strips into a V shape so that the top of the V is three inches apart, and each leg of the sides of the V are seven inches long.

    • 4). Screw each "V" onto the wood with washers so that they are screwed down at the bottom point of the V and face outward.

    • 5). Screw the aluminum sheets onto the other side of the piece of wood so that each sheet is behind and as wide as two of the V's. There are a total of four aluminum sheets, each behind and as wide as 2 V's.

    • 6). Inter-connect the screws of the V's with wire. For one wire, start at the top left screw, route the wire to the second and third rows on the right, and finish at the fourth screw on the bottom left. Perform the same connection sequence with the other V's (top right, 2nd left, 3rd left, 4th right).

    • 7). Attach each of the two connecting wires of the balun to the inter-connect wires between the 2nd and 3rd rows. Be sure that they do not touch each other.

    • 8). Make a stand for the antenna by screwing a wood platform to the 24-inch stand bottom, so that the entire device is upright.

    • 9). Attach a 75-ohm coaxial cable from the balun to your television to test the unit.
