    • Alabama has great ATV trails for mud lovers.quad1 image by charly_lippert from Fotolia.com

Whether you are a mud lover, like speed or enjoy a smooth ride, Alabama has a number of ATV trails to meet your preferences. Here you will find both beginner and advanced trail systems that allow you to cross over different terrain as you ride. The following are some family-friendly ATV parks that take you deep into beautiful national forest scenery. In some areas you can combine off-roading with other outdoor fun such as picnicing, fishing and camping.

    Mudders Mag Off Road Park

    • Before "Mudders Magazine" bought the park, this trail was called Dirty Dog Mud Park. If you aren't a mud lover, you have no business being here; the park has hundreds of mud holes, so you simply can't avoid a mud bath. But the good news is that hot showers are available on-site. Mudders Mag Park is only one hour from Alabama's Auburn University and two hours from Atlanta, Georgia.

    Flint Creek Multiuse Trail

    • If you have just started riding ATVs, you will like this trail. The sandy surface is smooth and gives you a good grip. The trail goes through the hilly Bankhead National Forest and is open to all skill levels. You'll find the trailhead five miles down County Road 81 in the town of Danville.

    Kentuck ATV/Dirt Bike Trail

    • This mountain trail winds through the Talladega National Forest in two-way loops. Since you'll be sharing it with dirt bikers, you may want to turn off your MP3 player so you can hear them coming. Also, to protect the waterways in the forest, you'll be going over bridges at all creek crossings. Kentuck is a public trail and is closed from January 1 through March 31.

Minooka ATV and Dirt Bike Park

    • Minooka Park, in the town of Jemison, is in the mid-section of the state. The topography changes as you ride the trail system, making this an exciting option if you like variety. Here you'll also find designated areas for picnics and camping, as well as a lake where you can fish. The park's entrance is on County Road 146.

    Southern Ridge ATV Park

    • A mud lover's dream, Southern Ridge Park has so much of it that only ATVs are allowed. Signs mark all trails to let you know where you are. Arrows help keep you going in the right direction. Southern Ridge Park is in Dozier on County Road 77.
