    Anchorage's Best Salmon Fishing

    • Looking to cast into the waters right in Anchorage? Try Ship Creek, one of the premier salmon fisheries in Alaska. Though this particular waterway is closed during salmon-spawning season, it provides great opportunities, and even has handicap-accessible fishing near the railroad industrial park. Campbell Creek, located in South Anchorage, offers great salmon fishing from the shore. For those who would rather cast into a lake, check out Jewel Lake. The best access points are off of 88th Street and into Jewel Lake Park, or the south end of the lake off of Diamond Boulevard. This lake is annually stocked with a variety of fish, including salmon and its cousin, the trout. The Alaska Department of Fish and Game also suggests DeLong Lake, which is stocked with salmon, as well as Cheney Lake.

    Best Fishing Near Anchorage

    • Consider heading to the outskirts of Anchorage to fish such locales as Kashwitna River, which is just north of the city on the Parks Highway, or Bird Creek, which is south of Anchorage on the Seward Highway. Little Susitna River and Willow Creek both have salmon fishing; they are located along the Park Highway, north of Anchorage. The Seward Highway will also take anglers to Twenty Mile River; about 90 miles south is the Kenai River, which boasts amazing salmon fisheries.
