- 1). Call Microsoft's replacement department, at 1-800-360-7561. In the United States, hours are from 5 a.m. to 7 p.m. Pacific time.
- 2). Explain to the operator what happened to your original Windows XP CD, and that you have proof of purchase. Be as specific as possible. The operator will then assess whether Microsoft can replace your CD free of charge.
- 3). Mail in the the proof of purchase, along with the original CD, if you still have it. Take this step only if Microsoft offers to replace the Windows XP CD.
