How to Mark Bad Hard Drive Sectors on an iPod 5G

    • 1). Plug your iPod in to your computer, right-click the "Start" button, click "Explore" and then note the drive letter of the iPod in your Windows Explorer window.

    • 2). Click on the "Start" button again, click "All Programs," click "Accessories" then click "Command Prompt."

    • 3). Type "chkdsk ipod_drive_letter: /r" into the Command Prompt and press "Enter," with "ipod_drive_letter" being the drive letter of the iPod you found in Step 1. This starts the chkdsk program, which runs and marks any bad sectors on the drive.
