Styles of Glass Frames for the Shape of Faces

    Square Faces

    • If your face is square, you have a strong, angular jaw, a broad forehead and square chin. Your face is proportional in terms of length and width. In order to soften the lines of your face, try oval or round frames. Butterfly shaped glasses are also an option. Stay away from geometric shaped frames. This includes square and rectangular. Avoid color on the bottom of the frames as it will draw attention to your chin.

    Oval

    • An oval face shape works with most styles of glass frames. Your proportions are balanced and your chin is slightly more narrow than your forehead. You also have high cheekbones. Add some definition to the softness of your face by trying rectangular or square frames. Frames you should avoid are any that are too big for your features. If you put on a pair of glasses that draw more attention to themselves than your face, try on a less conspicuous pair.

    Oblong

    • If you have an oblong face it happens to be longer than it is wide. You have high cheekbones, a nose on the long side and a tall forehead. You're going for frames that make your face appear shorter. So, broad glasses with a top rim accent is a good choice, as well as those temple accents, which add width. Avoid small frames and short frames. These are out of proportion with your face and will accentuate its length.

    Triangle Face

    • If your face is a triangle, you've got a narrow forehead and eye line. Your face widens at your cheeks and chin, too. You should try partially rimless frames that draw attention to your upper face. Top-accented styles will help to balance your jaw's width. If you can find frame bottoms that angle inward, give them a try. But, avoid low-set arms and temples on your glasses as well as overall narrow frames.

    Round

    • A round face is soft, like the oval, but shorter. Your cheeks are full and your face is about as wide as it is long. You have a few options to make your face appear more angular. Rectangular and square frames are a good bet. High-set temples on your glasses will add length to your face and an accent on top of the frame will draw attention to the top of your face. Avoid round or small frames.

    Diamond Face

    • The diamond face shape is the most rare; it is narrow at the eye line and jawline. Cheekbones are broad and high. You will want to soften the cheekbones, so try frames that have details at the brow line or top of the rim. Try cat-eye glasses as well as oval or rimless frames.

    Heart Shaped

    • The heart-shaped face is wide at the cheek bones and narrows down to a small chin. This face shape should go for narrow, round frames to soften the forehead. Low-set temples will also draw attention downward. Bottom heavy frames will add width to the lower face. Heart-shaped faces should avoid top-heavy styles that draw attention up as well as decorative temples, which might accentuate the broad upper face.
