How to Git Rid of a Windows Antivirus Hijack

    End Processes

    • 1). Press "Ctrl," "Shift" and "Escape" to open the Task Manager.

    • 2). Click on the "Processes" tab and then click "Show Processes From All Users."

    • 3). End the following processes. To end a process, right-click on it and select "End Process."

      "Antvrs.exe"

      "WindowsAntivirus2008.exe"

    • 4). Close the Task Manager.

    Delete Registry Values

    • 1). Click "Start" and type "Regedit" into the "Search Programs and Files" box and press "Enter." The Registry Editor opens.

    • 2). Delete the following registry values from the left pane of the Registry Editor. To delete a registry value, right-click on it and select "Delete."

      "HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Antivirus"

      "HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Antivirus"

      "HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Run\Antivirus = ProgramFiles\Windows Antivirus 2008\Antvrs.exe"

    • 3). Close the Registry Editor.

    Delete DLLs and Files

    • 1). Click "Start" and type "cmd" into the "Search Programs and Files" box and press "Enter." The Command Prompt opens.

    • 2). Type the following commands into the Command Prompt. Press "Enter" after each command.

      "regsvr32 /u shlwapi.dll"

      "regsvr32 /u wininet.dll"

      "del WindowsAntivirus2008.exe"

      "del shlwapi.dll"

      "del wininet.dll"

      "del Windows Antivirus 2008.lnk"

      "del Uninstall Windows Antivirus 2008.lnk"

    • 3). Close the Command Prompt and restart your computer.
