Julia Roberts stars in this adaptation of Elizabeth Gilbert's bestselling memoir. Liz (Roberts) goes through a divorce — her husband is played by Billy Crudup — then she has an unsatisfying affair with an actor (portrayed by James Franco). She decides to leave Manhattan and go on a year-long voyage of self-discovery.
She first travels to Italy, where things mostly center on food (Eat). Then she goes to India and meditates in an ashram (Pray). Finally, she moves on to Indonesia, where she meets and gets into a romantic relationship (Love) with a Brazilian man (Javier Bardem).
