How to Repair a Bad Sector on an HD

    • 1). Double-click "Computer" on the desktop. Right-click the "C:" drive. Select "Properties."

    • 2). Click the "Tools" tab, select "Check Now..." (within the "Error Checking" section). The "Check Disk Options" window opens.

    • 3). Place a check mark in the boxes "Automatically fix file system errors" and "Scan for and attempt recovery of bad sectors" in the "Check Disk Options" window. Click "Start." The utility is unable to run on your hard drive while in use and prompts you to schedule the scan for the next restart.

    • 4). Click "Schedule disk check" in the warning dialog that appears. The message states that it cannot check the disk while it is in use. Restart the computer to begin checking for and repairing bad hard drive sectors.
