- 1). Put the leather gloves on your hands. The gloves will protect your hands from getting cut. The tighter the fingers on the gloves are, the better. Gloves with large fingers decrease your dexterity.
- 2). Decide how big you want the letters to be and whether or not you want them connected, such as in cursive writing. The larger the letters, the easier it is to manipulate and bend the wire. Estimate and cut the appropriate amount of barbed wire with either the wire cutters or the pliers (err on the side of cutting too much--you can always cut off any excess).
- 3). Lay the wire on the work bench.
- 4). Grip the wire firmly with your gloved hands and begin bending to create the general shape of the letter. Alternatively, lay the wire on top of a letter template and use it to make the shape.
- 5). Use the pliers to continue bending the wire into the exact shape you desire.
- 6). When sections of letters overlap or connect, such as "X," "Q" or "K," use cut pieces of copper wire to hold the barbed wire together.
