- 1). Find an old pair of jeans, pants or shorts that you do not wear any more. This will be the basis for your new skirt. Because the waist, zipper and buttons are already in place on the article of clothing, you will only need to attend to the legs.
- 2). Take apart the inner seam using the seam ripper. When the inner seam is completely disassembled, turn the garment inside out and lay it flat on a large work surface.
- 3). Create the skirt by pinning together the two tops of the old pant legs and the two bottoms. This will give your new skirt it's cylindrical shape with a front and a back, instead of two separate legs. The fabric will not be straight at first because of the shape of the material from the crotch area. When you think that you have the seams in place, turn the fabric inside out and check on the shape before you sew it. Pinning the fabric in this way will produce a fuller skirt. Adjust the amount of fabric that you trim depending on the look that you want to achieve. Sew the skirt seams and remove the pins.
- 4). Measure the garment for length preference and draw a line on the skirt for cutting, measuring one inch more than your preferred skirt length to allow for a hem. Cut along the line for the length of the skirt. Fold the bottom of the fabric up one inch and pin the hem in place. Begin sewing the hem line of the skirt, both front and back. Your can sew a double line in the hem to allow for crispness by sewing near the top of the fabric and near the bottom. When you have finished sewing the hem, remove the pins.
- 5). Turn the skirt right-side out and press it with an iron.
