- Micro-suede is tough and the fibers are small, but dust, food particles and lint can be even smaller. This type of dirt accumulates wherever people sit, clothes are laid and especially where people snack. One way to clear micro-suede of these contaminants is a vacuum cleaner with a brush attachment. Because micro-suede is delicate, use a soft brush attachment that will not harm the upholstery. All parts of the couch, including under the couch, should be cleaned thoroughly at least once a month to keep the micro-suede looking its finest.
- Liquid spills, unlike most dust and food, can stain even the most stain resistant micro-suede couch if left to linger. For liquids such as grease, oil, or spilled beverages, use a steam cleaning device such as a Scunci Steamer or Rug Doctor Upholstery Steam Cleaner. These devices use steam to lift liquids and other dirt from the fabric and can eliminate problem areas before they have the chance to set in. This process, in effect, gives the couch a steam bath and you can perform it regularly to ensure the couch stays looking at its best.
- Although sometimes expensive, dry cleaning brushes provide a quick and thorough cleaning of couches and carpets without the use of harsh chemical cleaners. These brushes can be either powered or manual and consist of one or more rotating brushes that gently brush dirt from between fibers on the couch. Brushing with a dry cleaning brush once a week can reduce the need for a homeowner to vacuum the couch, although regular vacuuming is still recommended.
- Although not mechanized, the old soap and water trick is a good way to handle immediate spill cleanup. Use a soft soap such as dish soap mixed with a generous portion of water. Dab this mixture on the affected area with a paper towel or wash rag. When the affected area has been covered, use a dry towel to soak up any excess moisture until the couch has dried.
