Camping requires certain basic equipment and while certain things can be skipped or just changed for something else, some things are necessary.
Two of these things, for most campers, is the sleeping bag and the tent.
An amateur might think that all sleeping bags and tents are the same and that the selection process is a simple one.
But someone who's been out in the woods before knows that there are many differences and even more decisions.
So you have to be careful what you are looking for when you are choosing.
One of the primary factors is going to be the comfort versus weight decision.
You are going to want to be warm at night but you are not going to want to carry excess weight around with you.
So it is important to try to find out what types of conditions you will be facing on your trip.
After you determine what kind of weather you are in for than you can narrow down your choices.
Many campers prefer down because it keeps you warm but is light.
After you choose a sleeping bag, you'll want to find a good tent.
Much like the bags you will want to balance the weight versus the usage.
And for both decisions, you'll want to know how many people intend to use the equipment.
The more people, the bigger the size you will be needing.
When it's warmer you can go for a lighter option and sacrifice some warmth.
In winter months you may have to go with heavier options if you want to remain comfortable.
So, after you work out what you are going to expect, you can make an informed decision.
But first take some time and figure out what you are going to need in your particular situation.
