Prince George's County is located east of Washington D.C. in Maryland. The county is an ideal location for day trips to the surrounding cities of Washington D.C., Baltimore and Annapolis. For children in PG county, the Department of Parks and Recreation offers many options for summer camps. These camps are a great way to keep kids busy and active during the summer months. There are many programs to choose from and the sessions are flexible. - For children ages 8 to 11 who aspire to act and sing, PG County offers Art Camp: Making a Musical. Campers will learn about musical theatre, acting, singing, costumes and scenery. At the end of the two-week camp, campers will perform for family and friends. The camp runs from 9 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. with options for early morning care (7 to 9 a.m.), and afternoon care (4:30 to 6 p.m.).
For the chef-in-training, the Department of Parks and Recreation has a culinary camp for kids ages 6 to 12. Campers will learn to prepare both easy and challenging recipes while learning their way around the kitchen. Other activities throughout the two-week camp include arts and crafts, field trips and games. Early morning and late afternoon care is available. - For the age group 10 to 17, pre-teens and teens have many options for summer camps. The PG County Department of Parks and Recreation has a Young Architects camp for youth ages 11 to 15 interested in building and creating three-dimensional models. Campers will learn about perspective drawing, mapping out floor plans and will create a "dream house" to exhibit at the end of the two-week camp. There will also be a field trip to the National Building Museum.
PG County's Swim and Travel camp is a two-week camp designed for teens ages 13 to 16. Campers will develop and improve their swimming skills and learn about swimming safety. The camp will also feature trips to the movies and visits to museums and parks.
For ages 10 to 12, youth can experience overnight camping at Wilderness Adventure Camp. Campers will hike, fish, kayak, learn about tents and stay in cabins overnight. - For campers ages 8 to 14, PG County offers Aviation Camp. Each two-week camp will teach youth about aviation and have them use a flight simulator, make model airplanes and build and launch model rockets. Other activities will include field trips.
Aspiring dancers can participate in the mixed-ages Dance Camp. Ages 8 to 14 will learn about many dance genres, including jazz, modern dance and hip hop. Campers can also swim and go on field trips.
At Horseback Riding Camp, youth ages 6 to 16 will learn about horse care and receive riding instruction over a week-long session.
PG County's Tennis Camp is designed for ages 6 to 13 in one session and 7 to 14 in a second session. Campers will develop their tennis form, and learn skills, techniques and strategies. There will also be drills and singles and doubles competitions.
