- Washington contains a number of lakes that offer productive shore fishing. Species of fish commonly caught from lake shores include Bluegill, Crappie, Largemouth and Smallmouth Bass, Walleye and Northern Pike. Jigs, surface lures and live bait are all productive lure choices for lakes.
- Rivers and streams are ideal choices for shore fishing because many are small enough that an angler can cast to any point of water in them without needing a boat. Streams in Washington often contain various species of trout, bass, panfish and pike. Tributaries of the Pacific Ocean may contain salmon during spawning season. Flyfishing is a popular technique to fish these water, particularly trout streams.
- Fishing the ocean without the use of a boat is challenging, but possible. Salmon, Rockfish, Croaker and Surf Perch all venture close enough to be caught from shore. Most of these fish prefer live bait such as shellfish or shrimp.
