- 1). Wipe the cooktop clean on a regular basis. Use a soft rag or sponge for cleaning off the cooktop. For basic cleaning, you can use a mild mixture of soap and water, or an antibacterial cleaning solution. Vinegar acts as a natural disinfectant. Mixed with equal parts of water, vinegar can be used to clean and shine your stainless steel cooktop.
- 2). Clean up spills and other messes as soon as possible. Dried food is much more difficult to dislodge than a fresh spill. When cleaned up immediately, most food stains can be wiped away with a damp sponge. If a spill has dried, place a wet sponge on top of the stain and leave it to soak for several minutes to help dislodge the mess.
- 3). Remove any heat stains on the stainless steel cooktop with club soda. Pour a generous amount of club soda onto the stain and rub vigorously with a soft cloth. It may take several applications to completely remove a large heat stain.
- 4). Polish the cooktop with a small amount of olive oil and a soft cloth. Stainless steel is prone to unsightly streaks when cleaned with hard water or harsh cleaning solutions. A dab of olive oil will help to restore the cooktop's natural shine.
