Diabetes or more popularly known as blood sugar is a disease when your body fails to regulate blood sugar level because of the disturbance in the level of insulin production.

In type 1 diabetes less insulin is made by the body whereas in type 2 diabetes the body becomes resistant to insulin.
Gestational diabetes occurs only in female and happen at the time of pregnancy.
The reason behind gestational diabetes is unknown.
Heart disease, kidney disease, nerve damage, eye problem and foot problem are other associated effects of diabetes if it is not controlled on time.
There are many anti-diabetic drugs that are prescribed by the doctors to the patient for controlling the diabetes or blood sugar.
Side Effects of Diabetes Medicine Metformin hydrochloride This is also called Glucophage XR and the most commonly used diabetes medicine.
The regular use of this medicine can lead to kidney problems.
So if you have a kidney problem then your doctor must know this before prescribing the medicine for diabetes.
Larger quantities of this diabetes medicine can also lead to extended diarrhea.
People taking metformin may face the problem of weakness, tiredness, and trouble in breathing.
If these problem persists then call your doctor for immediate assistance.
Insulin Insulin is injected directly in the blood to immediately control the blood sugar level.
It can either be given through injections or through insulin pumps.
But excess of this can lead to weight gain as the sugar is directly given to the blood cells.
Sulfonylureas It is the first oral hypoglycemic medication that comes under the brand name of Amaryl, DiaBeta, Diabinese, Dymelor, Glucotrol, Glucotrol XL, Glynase PresTab, Micronase, Orinase, Tolinase.
Patients taking this diabetes medicine can show side effects of hypoglycemia, an upset stomach and weight gain.
Some can even develop skin rash or itching.
Byetta Byetta, a subcutaneous injection is a very recent development in the field of diabetes medicines.
If you have taken the meal and very close to the meal you have taken Byetta then you may suffer from stomach pain and nausea.
On the other hand it can also lead to constipation.
Another thing that makes it less favourable is its non functionality after one or two years of the use.
Thiazolidinediones Generic name: pioglitazone, rosiglitazone Your liver enzyme level must be checked regularly if you are taking this diabetes medicine.
If you develop any sign such as stomach pain, vomiting, nausea, yellowing of skin or whites of eyes, dark yellow colored urine then you must call your doctor.
Weight gain, liver problem and risk of developing anemia are other problems associated with the use of Thiazolidinediones.
Glucotrol This diabetes medicine is also called glipizide and has least side effects.
At the extreme end patient can suffer from headaches.
Lantus Long Acting Insulin Just the weight gain is the problem associated with this diabetes medicine.
