How to Draw a Screensaver

    Preparation

    • 1). Select the "Start" menu icon in the bottom left corner of your display to prepare a folder for your drawings. In the panel, navigate to "Documents" and click to open. Whether you are using Windows XP, Windows Vista or Windows 7, the process is virtually the same.

    • 2). Right-click inside the Documents window and select "New Folder" or the "New" drop-down option. Select "Folder" to create a new folder.

    • 3). Name your new folder by right-clicking the folder and selecting "Rename." You will be prompted under the folder to type in the new name. Be sure to use an easily remembered folder name, such as "My Screensaver".

    Drawing

    • 1). Open Microsoft Paint by clicking on the "Start" menu icon, select "Programs," navigate to "Accessories" and choose Paint. Note that as the Windows XP and Windows Vista versions of Paint are older, they look slightly different than their Windows 7 cousin, but the functionality remains the same. Notice the colored boxes with various colors and the toolbox with various art tools to work with.

    • 2). Familiarize yourself with the Paint program. Select a color by clicking on one of the boxes of a corresponding color. You can create your own colors by double-clicking on a box and selecting "Define Custom Colors." Use the paintbrush on the work area to play with different custom colors that you may decide to use. To erase any work, use the eraser tool, and adjust its size as you need with the toolbox. To clear an entire workspace, go to "File" in the toolbar, and select "New."

    • 3). Begin drawing. Use the paint bucket option to fill any solid space with color. The paintbrush tool provides broad thick lines while the pencil tool creates thin outlines with ease. If you are having trouble with straight edges, the line tool will remedy this situation. Select a color and line thickness in the toolbox, then click and drag in the workspace for a solid line. Similarly, use the shape tool to create perfect circles and squares.

    • 4). Finish your drawing, then locate the toolbar at the top of the Paint window. Select "File" and "Save As." Go to your Documents where you created your new folder. Name your drawing and save it in a .jpg format inside the folder. You can add as many drawings as you desire.

    Turning on the Screensaver

    • 1). Return to your desktop. If you are using Windows XP, right-click the desktop and select "Properties." From there, choose the "Screensaver" tab and in the drop-down menu select "My Picture Slideshow." If you are using Windows Vista or Windows 7, right-click your desktop and select "Personalization" then "Screensavers" in the resulting window. In the drop-down menu click "Photos."

    • 2). Click "Settings" in the screensaver menu. Enable "Use Pictures and Videos From:" and click "Browse."

    • 3). Navigate to your Documents folder from the drop-down menu. From there select the folder you created earlier. It should contain all of your finished drawings. Select the folder and click "OK." Before you save your settings, you can personalize a few settings at the bottom of the settings window, such as the slide show speed. When you are finished, click "Save."

    • 4). Preview your new screensaver by selecting the "Preview" option on the screensaver menu. Ensure that the screensaver appears as you desire. You can alter any features or add more drawings by clicking on "Settings" again. Click "Apply."
