- 1). Start with a clean slate. Before applying, wash face with a gentle cleanser and apply a small amount of SPF-containing moisturizer. Moisturizer will not only help protect skin from harmful rays, but will also even out skin, giving makeup a smooth palette to cling to.
- 2). Make sure you have the best supplies. Poor-quality or dirty makeup applicators can sabotage healthy skin and make application more difficult, so make sure you are using natural sponges for foundation, and natural brushes that don't use synthetic hair.
- 3). Apply concealer first to any bad blemishes you want to cover up. Do this using a small concealer brush and mineral concealer, which is usually available at most drugstores from the same brand as your foundation. Apply a light layer to blemishes or under your eyes, as you will be getting further coverage with foundation.
- 4). For liquid mineral foundation, put a small amount, a little less than pea-sized, onto your sponge. Apply foundation in small strokes starting with your cheeks, then covering your T-zone, chin and rest of your face.
- 5). If you are using mineral foundation in powder form, begin by dipping your brush so that a small amount clings to it, then lightly tap the brush to remove any excess foundation. Again, start with your cheeks first, moving your brush in circles, until your entire face is covered.
- 6). Once you've applied your foundation you can move on to applying the rest of your makeup. You stick with all natural makeup in order to keep harmful chemicals off skin. Once you've applied the rest of your makeup to your liking, apply a very small amount of setting powder with a new brush. Setting powder is the final key to making foundation last all day, and you can purchase one with SPF for further all-day protection.
