- 1). Select recipes that use similar ingredients. When you choose recipes that have different ingredients, you will find that your grocery list will be long and expensive. You will spend less money by choosing recipes that use similar ingredients. The reason for this is that you use all of the ingredients, rather than a bit of this and a bit of that.
- 2). Omit optional ingredients. Any time you see a recipe that says something similar to, “1/2 cup chocolate chips, optional,” omit those ingredients. There is no reason to add these ingredients to the recipe. In fact, you’ll save money by not doing so. Optional ingredients usually include nuts and chocolate chips, along with dried fruit. These ingredients are much more expensive than other baking supplies, such as flour and sugar.
- 3). Start shopping early. A great way to save money on holiday baking is to simply start stocking up a few months in advance. Any time you see a good deal, stock up on it. Many ingredients needed for holiday baking have a long shelf life and will last for months, when stored properly.
- 4). Watch for sales. Starting a couple weeks before Thanksgiving, you will begin to see sales for holiday baking supplies. These are some of the best prices you will find. It’s not uncommon to find some of the ingredients you need for 50 percent off.
- 5). Take full advantage of oven space. When people set out to save money on holiday baking, they never consider energy costs. Holiday baking can cause your meter to spend out of control. That is why it only makes sense to fully take advantage of oven space. That way none of the energy goes to waste.
