- 1). Puncture each bratwurst lightly with a fork at least twice, breaking the skin. This will allow the beer flavor to penetrate to the meat.
- 2). Place the brats into a pot.
- 3). Cover with beer. If you do not have enough beer to completely cover the sausages, add some water.
- 4). Put the pot on the stove.
- 5). Bring to a low simmer on medium setting. Do not allow bratwurst to boil.
- 6). Simmer for 20 to 45 minutes. The longer you simmer bratwurst, the more flavorful it will be.
- 7). Remove the sausages from the heat. They are ready to be grilled.
