- 1). Inflate 30 or more small balloons. Set them aside. Put on a fitted undershirt and fitted long pants. Find a long or short sleeved shirt and long pants that are too large to fit the wearer properly in the waist area. The color of the outer layers should match, because they will form the visible portion of the costume. Set the outer layer of clothing to the side. The under layers are important because they will prevent the skin from being in direct contact with the balloons.
- 2). Put 10-15 balloons under the outer layer of clothing. Put several balloons under the outer shirt in the front and back. Another person will need to help you put the balloons in the back of the shirt.
- 3). Put on the pants that will be worn as the outer layer. Insert several small balloons into the waist section in between the under and outer pant layers. Make sure that the balloons are evenly distributed around the front and back of your body. Use safety pins to secure the shirt to the pants. Attach the pants to the shirt at six-inch intervals. This will allow the wearer to add enough balloons to cause the costume to puff out as much as desired. Insert additional batting, cotton or fabric around the balloons to enlarge the costume.
- 4). Attach additional safety pins to securely close all of the gaps between the other safety pins, once the costume is as large as you want it,. Tie a wide scarf around the waist to cover the safety pins and serve as a belt.
