How to Get a Machine's Serial Number

    • 1). Find the identification label on your machine's case. On a desktop computer or a computer printer, this label will be on the back of the case. On a laptop computer, this label will be on the bottom of the case. This label, among other pieces of information, will clearly print your machine's serial number.

    • 2). Look in your desktop or laptop BIOS. Turn on your computer and press the BIOS key that is listed on screen to boot into the BIOS. Among the other pieces of information in the "hardware" screen will be the serial number of not just your computer in general, but of other pieces of information like your processor and motherboard.

    • 3). Turn to the "technical specifications" page in the manual that came with your machine. This page will have information that is unique to your device, including model numbers and serial numbers for all of your hardware. The manual came packaged in the original box with the device itself.
